Hello, GIST students! We are introducing the candidates from the "Hwa-eum"(meaning: harmony) party, with Chae Won Park as the presidential candidate and Eun Won Seo as the vice presidential candidate. We are announce "Hwa-eum" policy document and joint statement. Below is the original text of the joint statement.
Greetings, fellow GIST students. We are Chae Won Park and Eun Won Seo, the candidates of the "Hwa-eum" party for the student council.
<IRUM> has made every effort to address the issues raised due to the absence of the student council. We have discussed matters that have been overlooked, such as re-enrollment criteria and tuition relief, and listened to the voices of students through GIST petitions. However, there have been some shortcomings. <IRUM> faced trial and error under an unstable system as we sought to pioneer a new path to restore trust in the shattered student community. <Harmony> aims to establish the structure and foundation of the student council on the groundwork laid by <IRUM>, creating a school where life, learning, and culture harmonize.
Firstly, <Harmony> will create a convenient and pleasant living environment. We will gather student opinions regarding the student cafeteria and convey them to the school. Recognizing the difficulties many students face in having meals due to classes or research labs ending at 6:30 PM, and acknowledging complaints about cafeteria operating hours expressed through GIST petitions, <Hwa-eum> will work with the administration and cafeteria vendors to address these issues. Additionally, to enhance the efficiency of the second-floor cafeteria, we will introduce a vibrating pager system to minimize confusion during order pick-up. We will also repurpose inefficiently used spaces, such as the printing room near the laptop reading rooms in the library, into relaxing areas with partition walls and comfortable chairs for students tired from studying.
Secondly, <Hwa-eum> will continue to respond to the ongoing issue of R&D budget cuts at the student council level, striving to improve the learning environment. As an example, we will discuss allowing students on leave to take seasonal courses. Many universities in the Seoul metropolitan area, as well as KAIST and POSTECH, allow students on leave to take seasonal courses, each with different details. We will provide opportunities to actively achieve individual learning goals by increasing the flexibility of academic plans.
Thirdly, <Hwa-eum> will create a vibrant and culturally rich school. We will initiate a program with local community businesses in collaboration with other universities to establish an environment that allows for a broad and rich network. Additionally, we will diversify the forms of class jackets. To address the persistent issue of delayed distribution of class jackets, we will maintain the existing features while simplifying the production process to expedite distribution. By respecting the uniqueness of designs for each grade, we aim to strengthen a sense of belonging within the community.
Finally, <Hwa-eum> will solidify the structure of the student council. The existing executive committee of the student council faces difficulties due to inconsistencies between department names and responsibilities, leading to a lack of clarity in the roles and responsibilities of each department. We will reorganize the departments into 'External Cooperation Department, Welfare Department, Communication Department, Finance and Administration Department, Policy Department, Information Department' for clear functionality. Additionally, we will consistently post the progress of our promises on an Instagram link tree, ensuring transparency in the implementation of our pledges. We aim to be a student council that can be trusted through transparent disclosure of commitments.
In conclusion, student societies cannot exist without the interest and participation of students, and we move forward with the support of our peers. We ask for your keen interest in and support for the new student society we will build together. Thank you for reading this lengthy message.
